    Budgeting & sensor inputs

    in Questions

Hi! I've been looking for a reliable arm for doing drawbot/paintbot or other artistic applications. I'm impressed with the build quality, transparency of development and interfacibility of the Annin V2. I have a few questions.

    1. how much should I budget to have a complete arm? about $1500 for Al hardware, steppers, and hardware, plus about how much more?

    2. If I'm using the python AR2 software, how can I read analog input, e.g. from pressure sensors?

    3. is it possible to mount the base of the robot on a vertical plane? How much would that change the software configuration?

I would budget between $1600 and $1700 to be safe depending on suppliers and shipping cost, all the little stuff sneeks up on you especially with the various electrical component. I’m guessing you would be looking to offset positions by an analog sensors distance measuremen? Its possible but would take a little bit of work. What sensor are you looking at? Also mounting it on a vertical plane is also possible, would require changing DH parameters but mostly I’d be concerned with torque on J1 axis as the motor and ratio wasnt designed to lift vertcal loads as much as rotating load about a horizontal axis.

Hi, Chris, Thank you for getting back to me.

With sensors, I was mainly thinking of two types. #1 pressure sensors, such as FSRs from sensitronics.com. I've worked with these before. That would be to get feedback from how hard a paintbrush is pressing on the canvas. #2 a way to home the "Z"/table surface (in CNC terms) for different paintbrushes. If I were to keep the arm mounted in the default way, and paint on a vertically-oriented canvas, what would be the maximum surface area it could cover? Could it cover 18"x24"? Thank you.

I will try to include analog input functionality in the next software release. The maximum reach of the robot outstretched is 25 inches so I think with a paintbrush in hand there’s no reason they couldn’t cover that entire surfa
