Hi, has anyone managed to get their AR3/4 working with RoboDK? I’ve been trying to connect it but am not able to. Any help would be really appreciated. Is there a tutorial posted somewhere that I can refer to? Thanks!

In Robot Builds
Hey guys, After countless hours of work, I've finally completed my AR3.5 robot build (AR3 upgraded to use the Teensy 4.1 from the AR4)! As per the AR3 --> AR4 upgrade sheet, the limit switches need to be wired to the 3.3v pin on the teensy rather than the common VIN pin that the encoders are wired to. The way I did this was to use a 4-pin aviation connector rather than a 2-pin one and used one of the extra 2 pins to wire the positive end of the limit switches to the 3.3V pin. If anyone wants to go down this route, just keep in mind that the cables on the corresponding 4-pin aviation connector in the control box would need to be wired in a mirrored fashion (see picture attached). The white cable in the picture is the encoder cable wired to the 3.3V pin - the wiring in the robot itself is an exact mirror image of this (horizontally). This would allow us to use an identical 4-pin cable as the ones we have used to connect the motors to the control box (one less thing to keep track of). I've also managed to get the AR4 software to run on macOS. Turns out that the prefix "COM" was hardcoded into the code which would not allow us to enter the port name in the mac format (which in my case was /dev/cu.usbmoden1452). I also managed to fix many of the layout issues that occur when running the software on a mac. I've attached the updated python file for anyone to use. If anyone needs help in building the robot, check out the YouTube series by Chris Boden (under his channels: Chris Boden and Chaotic Good - the robot playlist is called ARchi3). Although the series is not yet complete, it goes through the bulk of the build. Special thanks to Chris Annin for creating this amazing robot and putting it out for us to use free of cost! Looking forward to anything and everything you have in store for us! AR4 Software Adapted for Mac: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cdWjpfLZ-ePOGRLaPC-NdV2D9mq9xOm-/view?usp=sharing

Hi @Chris Annin, I was wondering if it's possible to order individual aluminum parts from the kit. I managed to destroy the J5 housing (due to my own incompetence) and was wondering if I could order only this part from you. Thanks and regards, Hamza

Hi Chris, Would it be possible for you to upload the .STEP files for the custom pulleys in the J3 Belt Upgrade Kit? I previously purchased the .STEP files on the robot kits page but this didn't include the new pulleys. Could we please have these .STEP files so we could fabricate these parts ourselves? Thanks!

Hi @Chris Annin, Would you know what are the dimensions and the weight of the package that the hardware kit comes in. I am just trying to figure out shipping costs and try to find the cheapest method to do so. Thanks!

Hi Everyone, Does anyone know what is the pitch of the threads of the metric screws and bolts in the hardware kits? I looked online but found conflicting information with the pitch varying based on several different factors (such as being fine or coarse threads).

Hi Everyone, Does anyone have an estimate of what the electrical components would cost in total? We have the cost of the other components in the aluminium parts kit, motors kit, and hardware components kit. However, since the electrical components are not available in a kit, and need to be purchased separately, does anyone know how much these would cost in total? Thanks!

Hi guys, I'm a complete noob when it comes to CAM but I do have access to a CNC machine (and people who know how to work it). I just wanted to ask, are the SolidWorks files listed in the Robot Kits section all I need to mill the aluminium parts or is there something else that I need? Thanks!

Hi Chris, First of all just want to say that I think you've done an amazing job with the robot and I'm definitely thinking of building one. I just wanted to ask before I pull the trigger, should I order all the stuff right now or should I hold off in case you possibly plan to release a new version in the near future. Maybe an AR4 with ODrive motors as has been mentioned in a few other forum posts? Thanks! Hamza
