Hi Redlunn, After seeing how the 212D worked internally and after reading the datasheet I somewhat expected it already that it couldn't work the way we want it to work... That's quite a bummer to be honest but somewhat expected. So the only way to get it working reliable/as expected(i.e. not using endstop switches) is to use them on the joints. But that requires redesigning quite a lot of parts. I think I'll stick to the AMT102/103 for now and just order one 212 for testing purposes until I get the time to redesign the required parts. But that doesn't mean I lost interest in it so if you make any progress please let us know!

Hi Redlunn, I'm looking into ordering the encoders for my AR3. I think I will follow the same path as you did and start with 6x AMT102 or 103 and also 1 AMT212D or AMT213D. Have you also considered using a single turn version (AMT212B) and directly mount it to the joint as another user is trying? Although after looking at the prices for both versions it doesn't make a world of difference. Can you tell me which transceiver you used for RS485? I'm not very familiar with RS485 to be honest.

Hi Kstan, for the moment I'm not planning to use a travel track but I think I have some spare parts left to simulate a track so I can help you out with the code after I finish building. I am however preparing the electronics for a travel track just in case I change my mind :-) As for the GX16-7 connector. I don't think I will use that as I modified a lot of the original (electronics) design anyway and didn't follow the manual as I wasn't happy with it. I remodeled the base enclosure, wiring, connectors and plan to remodel some of the other parts. I'm printing the new enclosure at the moment and if the new wiring works out nicely and get permission from Chris I will post the designs.

Hi Kstan, I think I will be able to help and don't think it will be very hard after a quick look at the code but as there is a lot of code a lot can go wrong and testing the code without debugging and just sending you some modified code could indeed cause something to break. I hope I am able to finish my AR3 soon(hardware = 90% done and at the moment I'm collecting the electronics) and if you by then still need help I'm happy to help and modify the code.

Nice work Dexter! And because you mounted it directly to the joint it will also make it easier to use absolute instead of incremental encoders which in turn make it possible to remove limit switches, less wiring etc. It requires a bit of modifications to the software but I think I'm up to the task. It would be a nice addition to the "standard" AR3 Ps. Can you also upload the step files to your Github(or Fusion 360 f3d format if you used that to make the designs)? It would make it easier if I decide to use a different encoder with a different mounting pattern.

Hi Kstan, I'm not Chris and to prevent further confusion I renamed my account. As far as I can see your stepper settings are correct but It still seems to me there's something wrong with the steps. With you current settings moving 1000 steps the motor should rotate 2.5 turns and the motor is definitely not doing that. Can you switch the connectors with the J1 driver just to rule out something is wrong with the driver you are currently using?

Did you check your microstep settings on your stepper driver? What setting is it on?

Sounds great. I'd love to hear about your progress. I hope I'm receiving my kit this/next week so I can start building. I have ordered the stepper kit but didn't order encoders yet. I also have a couple of nice beefy Clearpath servo's around which I'm going to experiment with (if I can fit them properly).

Hi Redlunn, I was looking into a similar solution with an absolute encoder before I noticed this post. Please keep us updated on your progression! Have you already tested the new sprocket size?

I can't confirm it with 100% certainty as I don't have the kit yet. Usually(at least in Europe) when there is no pitch specified it's course pitch. So my guess they are all course threads and also after looking at the pictures of the kit they seem course threads to me. Pitches for coarse threads are M3x0.5mm M4x0.7mm M5x0.8mm (not used in this kit/just for reference) M6x1.0mm M8x1.25mm I hope this helps you out. Erik
