AR4 coming soon

I wanted to let everyone know I will be releasing the next version AR4 in about a week. The AR4 will be the same as the AR3 mechanically so the aluminum kit and the hardware kit will be the same, upgrading your AR3 to the AR4 wont be too difficult. The AR4 will be using the Teensy 4.1 board and there are some significant software updates. All the kinematics and motion calculations will be moved to the teensy board. The software will include analog and incremental jogging, speed control will include mm per second as well as moves based on time and percentage as well as some new controls. I will also be making an electronics kit available. I will put on the robot kits back in stock when the AR4 is released. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Chris,

This is great news! Compared to the AR3, are most of the differences in the robot arm itself or the control box?

Hi Chris, would be good if you can publish an upgrade "shopping" list from the origonal AR2 to the AR4 at some point, when you are ready?

Chris, are you still collaborating with Tormach? If so will your robots end up using their new control software?

Hello, No not currently. I have been working with RoboDK to make the robot compatible with the CAD and g-code options they have available. You will also be able to control the robot using simple serial commands so it will be easy to write software, or use command line software to operate the robot. All the AR4 source code will of course be free to everyone.

It will be compatible with RoboDK. RoboDK is nearly done with the driver and post processor so that will follow shortly.

Is a new system will be controlling the same amount of axis 6+1? or I will able to use more channels? Im looking for the solution to control focus on the camera and control turn table for product photography. Thank you!

I will be much appreciate it, Chris. Well, ideally to have 9 axis, for zoom control as well, but the arm probably won't able to lift heavy prime zoom lens. So, maybe in future if you sell more powerful arms with wider work field, would be nice if it had 12 channels, so we synchronize turn table and studio lights with arm.
